Well, I am now convinced that long runs early in training is essential to the development of a good cardio base. I think even more so than cycling, running should be where you should concentrate your endurance aspects of training. Not to mention its easier to get a good run in versus a ride during the colder weather. I have already seen improvements just from running and then transitioning to mountain biking. It takes a lot harder sustained and aggressive riding before I even get tired on the bike. With XTERRA being my focus this will become an essential tool during the race season. I have about two more months of long tough runs, rides, and swims stacked with plenty of strength training. I am looking forward to seeing what I am capable of when May comes around.
