Base Tri Review
Well...where do I start. It first started out with about 42 participants...not bad for a Base function. I arrived thinking everyone would have a level playing field using a borrowed bike...I was wrong. Some folks brought their own bike (real road bikes) and I was left with my 40 pound nonadjustable steel steed. Yes, it was quite painful to the man-parts. Before I continue I will start with the swim. Since the swim was indoor, we had heats in the pool...I was in the first wave. I started out WAY too fast and almost ruined the race. It has been awhile since my last Tri(last Oct). Anyway, I finished up 2nd out of the water with really a few feet behind the first guy. I think it took around 12 minutes for the 800m's. Next, on the bike... my seat came loose about 2 feet after pulling out of T1...not cool when its already not comfortable. I also couldn't adjust the seat hight so my legs burned out fast, not to mention the STEEL:) Anywho, after pedalling my @$$ off as fast as I could muster and getting passed by a "real road bike" I realized I didn't care anymore. As long as I could get off of that wretched saddle and get on w/the run. The run was good until I was mislead past my turn and ended up running 7k instead of 5k...needless to say I didn't place first, but was only 4 minutes behind the 1st guy in my heat. The official results haven't come out yet but I am not sure that I care. Lesson learned today: If someone says, "Hey, you can use our bikes and do this race." I will probably have flashbacks of my crucials getting slammed with the nose of a saddle and decline the offer. Thanks for tuning in, and wish me some luck at my next race:) PEACE!
