4 Weeks Until Next Race

It is almost time for a taper...I have logged almost double the riding miles that I was earlier this off-season. As of Monday I consider it the official racing season for XTERRA. There are actually two XTERRA races today (Cali., & Miami) that kick off the stateside series. Unfortunately, I could not make Miami this year so I will have to make sure the races I do...count. I am feeling even stronger than I did 4 weeks ago, not to mention I caught the NC cold two weeks ago. Now that I am over that, it is time to get serious with race specific training. Lots of bricks, eating well, and scheduled rest. The next two weeks will be really intense training and then the two weeks prior to race day will be my taper weeks. I have only a few open water training sessions in my wetsuit so far but should get plenty in the next few weeks. The water is cold around here and kind of reminds me of Lake Tahoe only colder I think...57 degrees in the water is cold! I have found the trick to getting warm in cold water...1st you jump in and swim about 20 meters and get out...jump around like an idiot and tell yourself that you really want to get in again, and then go swim. It always seems warmer the second time you get in.
